Animal Track Hunt

At the open-air museum, children encounter rare, partly endangered farm animal breeds - animals that used to be a natural part of many farms. Together we discover how sheep, goats, pigs, cattle, and poultry were kept in the past, why old breeds are preserved, and what makes them so special to this day. Along the way, there are vivid insights into how the animals are cared for. A small hands-on activity about wool rounds off the program - every child takes home a souvenir.

About Sheep, Wool, and Felt

In the past, people on farms lived under one roof with their animals - whether horses, cows, goats, chickens, or sheep. The children discover why wool was so important for everyday life on a walk through the museum grounds and various historic houses. Afterward, they can try for themselves what can be made from wool: using felting, soft fibers become a small work of their own to take home.

Guided Tour: Rebecca Louise Law

At Jahr100Haus, an impressive experience awaits you: a monumental installation made of oats and flowers stretches from the foyer into the exhibition rooms. The plants come from the museum's fields, were harvested together with a community, dried, and processed further - a work that visibly brings together nature, hands-on work, and community. The British artist Rebecca Louise Law (*1980) is one of the most important international figures when it comes to bringing nature and art into a captivating dialogue. Her works are sensual, space-filling experiences, but also quiet messages about the beauty and fragility of nature. During the tour, you will learn how the installation came about, which plants were used, and what ideas Law pursues with her art. Encountering the work opens up new perspectives on what surrounds us every day - and yet is so easy to overlook.
